My top picks of the sale

I have never been one to turn down a good bargain but when it comes to post Christmas sales I just can't face battling the masses in order to get something cheap. Instead I favour shopping from the comfort of my sofa. Here are my purchases from this years Boxing Day sales.

You Beauty Discovery Advent Calendar Days 16, 17, 18, 19 & 20

"People will stare. Make it worth their while!"
#makingeyes Eyeko

Hiding behind the biggest door in the calendar was this Eyeko Lash Curler. I have tried the curler out and have to say I think it is better then my Benefit one, purely because it opens up wider so it's easier to use. The handles are also covered in a velvet material which is a nice design touch.

"The ultimate in skincare."

I haven't tried anything for Rodial before but have been very impressed by this lip balm. I have been suffering from dry lips at the moment and this balm got my lips back into a nice condition after just one day of use.

"Feel good about looking good."
John Masters Organic

You can't go wrong with shampoo and conditioner minis, I don't think they are really ever big enough to make you fall in love with a new brand but they are handy for travelling. The shampoo from this duo smells quite herbal which isn't something I would normally go for and the detangler mini again is quite herbal but with a hint of citrus as well.

"Laughter is the best cosmetic."

I am a big fan of the Benefit Pore fessional and I have been using it for a while so having a travel mini will be very handy.

"Tanning the easy way."
James Read

This is the second lot of fake tan I have received from this calendar and as I am not a massive fan of fake tan I may pass this onto a friend but having a sleep in tanning mask seems like a nice concept (as long as it doesn't develop too dark)

Grandma's Cheesecake

This is the recipe for one of my all time favour deserts. It is a cheesecake that my Grandma makes every Boxing day and whenever I eat it, it brings back nostalgic memories of my childhood. It's a very simple recipe and only takes around 20 minutes to prepare.

For Base:
4oz digestive biscuits
2oz butter

For Filling:
3oz Philadelphia cream cheese
1 packet Bird's Dream Topping
4oz icing sugar
Vanilla extract to taste

Two mixing bowls
Small saucepan
Spring form tin
Electric hand whisk or similar

1. Grease your spring form tin with butter. Make the base, start by crushing the biscuits and melting the butter. Once the biscuits are a fine crumb pour the melted butter into the bowl. Mix biscuits and butter together. Once combined evenly poor the base mix into your greased spin form tin. Pat down the crumbs to form a crust on the bottom of the tin. I also bring the base up the sides of the tin but this is optional.

2. Make up the Bird's Dream Topping following the instructions on the packet. I whisk it up for around 5-10mins with electric beaters till it forms a soft peak texture (similar to whipped cream) having a firmer texture at this stage means the cheesecake will hold together better.

3. Whisk in the cream cheese until fully combined. Then add the icing sugar a little at a time. You can do it all in one go if you want but by mixing it a little at a time it stops it spreading a sugary cloud all over your kitchen.

4. Add the vanilla extract, I like mine pretty vanillary so I added two tea spoons but you can add as much or as little as you like. You could also mix it up and add other flavours if you wanted to. Whisk it all together to make sure the whisk is completely smooth.

5. Pour mixture over base and roughly flatten the surface. I like to decorate mine with chocolate shapes but you could use anything. Kiwi and strawberry slices also like nice if you are making this for a summer bbq.

Once prepared the cheesecake only needs to chill for around 30 minutes in the fridge before it's ready to eat. This cheesecake can be made well in advance of any event and frozen. All you need to do is take it out of the freezer the day before you need it and put it in the fridge.

You Beauty Discovery Advent Calendar - Day 13, 14 & 15

"It's time for a nail intervention"
Sally Hansen

I am really happy to receive this Nail Rehab Strengthening treatment. I have been getting gel nails for a few months now and they are taking there toll on my nails. I am hoping this treatment will revitalise my nails and stop them from being flakey.

"Perfect your party look with Luxurious Volume from the Professionals."
John Frieda

Ideal for this festive season, this Blow Dry Lotion will give my hair some much needed party ready boosting. This handy travel sized bottle is great if you are having a night away anywhere so there is no need to carry around a full sized product.

"Distilling happiness since 1862. Introducing Fleur de Figuier Fragrance"
Roger & Gallet

I wasn't expecting to get a fragrance in my advent calendar and I don't tend to like new fragrances but this is a really nice sample. The scent is a soft floral which is on the sweet side. I have never tried a Roger & Gallet perfume before so I don't know how long the fragrance will last when you wear it, but the bottle is small enough for you to carry it around in your handbag.

You Beauty Discovery Advent Calendar Day 11 & 12

"Passionate experts in luxury tanning."
Vite Liberata

Day 11 is a Vita Liverata 20ml sample and mini tanning mit. I am not really much of a fake tanner because due to being so pale all fake tan do appear very "fake" on me. This tan looks to be a nice light gel texture and it doesn't have a smell at all which is a nice change from the traditional biscuity fake tan smell.

"You only get one face so look after it."

I am very excitied to try out this Glamglow Youthmud mask. The mask says its a Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment which has a tightening effect on the skin in 10mins or less. Knowing how expensive Glamglow is to buy I am looking forward to trying this sample out to see if its really worth it.

The texture of the treatment is a creamy base with chunky exfoliating particles.

You Beauty Discovery Advent Calendar Day 9 & 10

"A smile is the prettiest thing you can wear."

Day 9 bought me a Teeez Trendy Cosmetics Desert Metals Mascara in Midnight Sky. I am planning to use this tomorrow and I will post before and after images of the mascara. I have never heard of this brand before so I'm interested to see what the quality is like.

"Working in harmony with the power of nature"
Burt's Bees

Day 10 is a very useful travel mini of the Burt's Bees Almond and Milk hand cream. I have a full sized pot of this already so I know it's a great product. The cream is a thick, balmy texture which sinks really quickly into the skin without leaving any annoying oily residue. If you are suffering as I am with dry hands this winter I would highly recommend this hand cream.

You Beauty Discovery Advent Calendar Day 8

"Healthy hair is beautiful hair"
Philip Kingsley

I am so happy with todays advent calendar offering. I got the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer which is an intensive, super conditioning pre shampoo hair treatment. I have used the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer before so I know that it works well with my hair type. This is also a really great sample size and I think I will be able to get at least 5 treatments out of this tube, which is great as I have long hair.

You Beauty Discovery Advent Calendar Day 7

"Create a sanctuary of blissful relaxation in the comfort of your own home."
Aromatherapy Associates

Today brought a little change from the beauty products and instead was something for the home. I got this really cute, travel sized Aromatherapy Associates candle in the fragrance Relax. I have to say it is one of the best smelling candles I have ever come across and I am looking forward to lighting this after a long day at work. I also received a £10 off discount code for any purchases on the Aromatherapy Associates website which I think is a pretty good deal.

You Beauty Discovery Advent Calendar Day 6

"Just 3 minutes to glowing, party ready skin."

Todays advent calendar bought a new beauty brand to my attention. I have never tried anything from Sisley range before but this Radiant Glow Express Mask looks like just the thing I need to keep my skin in top condition this party season. The mask as a soft creamy texture so I think this will be a very hydrating mask.

You Beauty Discovery Advent Calendar Day 5

"The rare beauty of the vineyards of Bordeaux inspires us every day."

It's day 5 of my advent calendar and today I got the Caudalie Nourishing Body Lotion which says its an Anti-oxidant and hydrating moisturiser. This body lotion has a light texture which sinks quickly into skin without leaving an greasy residue. I have given this to my mum as I said we could share my advent calendar goodies.

My Little Cosy Box

Novembers my little box was a cosy themed box, helping you to prepare for the cold, winter weather. Once again I love the illustrations on the outside of the box and the little print inside. There was a delay in the arrival of my box this month which is why this post is going up later then usual.

This month the box included a cute little espresso mug with the quote "How is you day gonna be?" written on one side of it and one the other is an illustration. A hot water bottle style bean bag which you pop in the microwave for warmth on the go. This is also ideal to slip in your handbag because its not to big.

The beauty bits inside the box were all about the eyes. I received a My Little Beauty mascara, an Yves Rocher eyeshadow in the shade 112 - Brun Cafe Mat and a Arcanicl Paris Waterproof Star Liner in 001 Noir. I have never heard of Yves Rocher or Arcanicl Paris before but from the swatches they look like to be good quality, highly pigmented products and I'm looking forward to properly trying them out.

You Beauty Discovery Advent Calendar Day 4

"It's not what you wear, it's how you wear it."

Todays advent calendar treat was an exceptionally good one. Behind door 4 was a full sized essie nail varnish in the shade hor d'oeuvres. I know this shade was talked about a lot last year and I'm glad I didn't buy it last year as it has proved to be a real treat today. The nail varnish has a mix of chunky silver glitter and fine champagne glitter. Unlike many glitter nail varnishes this only needs one coat to get a fully covered nail, with no colour underneath.

One coat

You Beauty Discovery Advent Calendar Day 3

"We know London. We know bath and body. It's a blend that works."
Molton Brown

Today in my You Beauty Advent Calendar behind door 3 was a travel sized bottle of Molton Brown Orange and Bergamot Body Wash. I really like the scent of this body wash it's a fruity floral scent which smells more of Bergamot then orange. I look forward to using this when I go to stay at my boyfriends over christmas.

Sorry for the bad photo, I have poor lighting at the moment.

You Beauty Discovery Advent Calendar Day 1 & 2

It's that time of the year again where the advent calendars come out and you get to enjoy a daily treat. This year I decided to buy myself the You Beauty Discovery advent calendar. It was very reasonably priced at £49 especially as it is worth around £240!

During the count down to christmas I am going to do short daily blog posts about what I get in my advent. I have set myself a challenge to post every day so hopefully I can keep to it and there will be 24 new posts before christmas as well as my usual twice weekly posts.

Day 1

Behind door 1 was a luxury sample size of the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish which came complete with a soft cloth to remove the cleanser with and us as a hot cloth treatment. I haven't had a chance to try this out get but from other reviews I have seen I think this product is a great way to start December with.

Day 2

Another great product was behind door number 2, again a luxury sample sized product. I have a few of these Laura Mercier foundation primers now and so far I think they are a great product. The primer is a cross between a gel and a cream in texture and feels really moisturising on the skin.
