Very A/W15 Press Day

I was lucky enough to be invited to the Autumn/ Winter 2015 press day. It was great to see the key trend pieces for next season and I actually left the event feeling excited for winter! Well winter fashion anyway not the cold so much.

The key trends for next season are 70's, Victoriana, Prints and Gothic. Although these may sound like they have been done many times before these trends have been refreshed ready for the 2015 fashion market.

Autumn/ Winter 15 is going to bring to stores a mass of colour, print and texture. You'll also be pleased to hear the oversized coats and cosy polo necks are staple wardrobe pieces this season. Im not usually a massive fan of prints, only because I don't think they personally suit my style. But now I can see myself rocking a bold print A-Line skirt, a black polo neck and finishing the look with a fedora.

Add some texture to your wardrobe with coloured fur gilets, fur trimmed jackets and lots of sequins.

My Little Provence Box

This months my little box comes with the usual selection of beauty bits, a treat, a print and the My Little magazine. It also came with a pack of magnets which you can use to brighten up your fridge and add a little French style to your life.

The beauty bits in this months My Little Box came packed with loads of L'Occitane goodies. I received the L'Occitane En Provence Soap with Verbena Leaves, L'Occitane En Provence Mer & Mistral Fresh Shower Gel, L'Occitane En Provence Roses et Reines Hand and Nail Cream and the L'Occitane En Provence Verbena Body Lotion. All have lovely herbal scents ideal to transport your scenes to a place of relaxation. They are all the perfect size for travel so they are ideal if you are planning a little weekend away.

I also got a 'Crayon Epatant' (The amazing eyeshadow pencil) from the My Little Beauty collection. It is a lovely soft metallic bronze eye crayon which can be used as a liner or smudged out to create a light wash of colour over the lids.

This little gold cuff comes with coloured string so that you can create your own design. I think this a lovely way that you can update an outfit whilst injecting some of your own personal style.

Gold Collagen 30 Day Trial Review

Why I did the 30 day program
With the seasons changing from Winter to Spring my skin and hair was feeling really dry and unloved. There comes a point where I think even the best skincare products can't get deep enough into your skin to give it the hydration boost it needs.

I was offered the chance to try out the Pure Gold Collagen program for 30 days. So I thought it would be a great opportunity to try out a new product and see if it really would give my skin the boost it needed.

The product - What they say
Designed for women wishing to promote beautiful skin and fight the appearance f early signs of ageing. The patent-pending formula contains a unique blend of collagen and active ingredients which nourish you from the inside out, promoting a beautiful and younger looking you from the inside out.

  • Help increase skin hydration
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Promotes skin suppleness
  • Promotes healthy looking hair and nails

The product - My first impressions
I was a little wary of the product to begin with because it's main selling point is it's anti-ageing properties, and being 22 I don't really need to worry about this just yet. But as I have said before my skin was feeling very dehydrated and definitely needed a hit of hydration.

The product itself comes in individual glass bottles and then boxed in lots of 10. I found this made them easy to stack on the shelf without having to find space for a massive box. The packaging looks high end and feels like a luxury product. Being in a glass bottle also means its easy to recycle!

The drink has a peach and passionfruit flavour which is pretty sweet, but its easy to drink. I took mine every morning before breakfast but you can drink it at any point throughout the day.

The results - Final review
I started to see noticeable results after around a week of taking the Pure Gold Collagen everyday. My skin looked my hydrated and I started to use a lighter moisturiser. Having taken the product continuously now for the full 30 day program I can safely say the condition of my skin has improved. It feels fully hydrated and my dry patches have vanished. My nails are becoming stronger and are less prone to breakages.

I can't really say that its done anything for fine lines or wrinkles because I don't have any get, but I think the hydration boost in your skin would help minimise the look of these.

It's hard to say how long these results will last for and if once I stop taking the daily dose my skin will become dry again. I think if you are really suffering from dry and even problematic skin the Pure Gold Collagen is a great way to kick start healthier skin. However the products are pretty expensive so it's definitely worth thinking about before purchasing a 30 day program. If your not 100% about whether to try it out you could always give the 10 day program a go as you will start to see results after a week.

I received the 30 day Pure Gold Collagen program as a press sample. All thoughts expressed are my own, this is not a sponsored post.

A Weekend Away The Beauty Guide

With airport security limiting you to a small plastic bag for your carry on liquids it can be hard to know what to pack for a weekend away when your only taking hand luggage. I have managed to narrow down your beauty essentials so you can still do your full skincare routine while your away.

For the shower you'll need a mini shampoo and conditioner as well as a mini shower gel. I don't really mind which brands I use when I travel because I don't think one or two showers will really make a difference to my hair. I just grab any sort of mini from my draw of samples. However if you are traveling somewhere for work an know your going to have early mornings it's always nice to take a awakening scent shower gel, to give you a morning boost.

Fitting in your full skincare routine can be tricky especially if your picky with your products. What I do is try and find multi use products. I wouldn't usually use the same products in the morning and at night because evening skincare tends to be heavier than in the morning skincare but when you go away it really saves space to narrow it down.

Cleanser - I make sure I always take a good quality facial cleanser because after a flight, or being out all day its good to make sure your skin gets thoroughly clean. The cleanser I'm currently loving is the Lis Earle Cleanse & Polish and this is pretty easy to find in a travel friendly size.

Serum - Serums typically come is bulky glass bottles, I got this little NUDE facial serum in a beauty box and it's ideal for traveling as it sits well under makeup as well as being rich enough to use before bed.

Day moisturiser - It is important to use a day cream which contains an SPF because any exposure to the sun does damage to your skin. I like this Clarins HydraQuench Lotion because it is a nice lightweight consistency and sinks quickly into the skin.

Evening moisturiser - My skin always feels really dehydrated after flying so a heavy duty moisturiser is exactly what I need. The Glam Glow Thirsty Mud mask can be left on overnight which means you wake up with fresh feeling skin.

Mini toothpaste, an essential but you don't need a lot, take the smallest tube you have to maximise space. I also love to take a hair oil away with me, it's a great multipurpose product which can be used a prewash treatment, a finishing product and a UV protector.

Other top tips:

  • If your traveling with someone chat to them before hand to see if you can share some products, this will leave you both with some extra space to pack makeup.
  • Whenever you get given samples of products keep them for when you travel.
  • If possible keep hold of mini bottle (e.g. the L'Anza Keratin Healing Oil bottle) then you can refill it from the full size product you have at home.

Traveling Light Makeup Essentials

The essentials you'll need for traveling light

1. A Do All Palette
Having a palette that covers all bases is ideal for travel. I usually take this Nars palette which has 4 eyeshadows, a blusher and a bronzer as well as a nice big mirror. Although you may think 4 eyeshadows is a bit limiting I have found that these 4 work well for both day and night looks. I would suggest picking a palette which has 2 light shades and 2 darker shades then you have the option to build up your eyeshadow for a natural look in the day and a smokey eye for the evening.
Ones like the Urban Decay Naked On The Run palette include everything you need.

2. Mascara
A mascara mini is always a great thing to take when you travel and if your anything like me then you'll have a draw full of tester mascaras. I know regular sized mascaras don't take up that much space anyway but every extra bit of space helps.
Sephora do a great mini mascara selection if your looking for some new mascaras to try out.

3. Lipstick/Lipgloss
I go for more of a lip stain when I'm away because when I'm traveling I want take in as much atmosphere as possible and make the most of what's going on around me, without having to worry about touching up my lipstick. Having said that lipsticks don't take up much room so you can easily take a bold lip and a neutral lip with you.

4. Primer
For me a primer is the first step in my makeup routine. I am prone to getting oily skin around my forehead area throughout the day so having a primer that is both mattifying and helps my makeup stay longer is essential. As a little primer goes a long way a small tube of the Benefit the Porefessional is all you'll need for traveling.
Benefit do a great selection of travel sized products.

5. Foundation
I tend to save any sample bottles of foundation I get, to use especially when traveling. I find that all foundation bottles whether from the drug store or high end all seem to come with excessive packaging. I don't tend to use a lot of foundation so a small bottle like this Bobbi Brown sample will last me around 7 days.

My Morning Skincare Routine

My easy four step morning skincare routine. The first thing I do when I get up in the morning is my skincare routine, I find it really helps me to wake up, and gets rid of all the left over products on my face from my evening routine. I never seem to have much time in the morning so having a quick, but effective skincare routine is very important. These four steps prime my skin ready so its ready for me to apply makeup but also make sure my skin gets some extra hydration.

In the summer I do apply an SPF after my moisturiser but at the moment I haven't needed to use one.

Step 1 - Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water
I'm not to fussy about what cleanser I use in the morning, as long as it leaves my skin feeling refreshed without leaving it feeling tight I'm happy. The cleanser I have been enjoying using at the moment is the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water. As with most Micellar Cleansing formulas it's a lightweight cleanser which doesn't sting your skin when you use it, but does make your skin feel clean and refreshed.

Step 2 - Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment
I have officially found my all time favourite eye cream! The Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado is a lovely, thick creamy texture which when warmed up between your two ring fingers melts down, ready to be applied smoothly onto the eye area. I didn't get along with the eye cream to begin with because I thought it was far to thick, but now I have learnt to warm it up before applying it I am finding a little product goes a very long way.

Step 3 - La Biosthetique Hydro-Actif
Dermosthetique Hydro-Actif Concentrate Hyaluronique is an intensive gel concentrate for clear firm skin. I use this as my serum step because it packs a huge dose of hydration into the skin without leaving it feeling oily. I have really noticed an improvement in my skin since introducing this into my skincare routine.

Step 4 - Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream
The final step in my skincare routine is a lightweight moisturiser. This Body Shop Vitamin E moisturiser is a super lightweight formula which absorbs quickly into the skin. And like the Hydro-Actif it doesn't leave an oily residue.

Half Healthy Chocolate Cookies

This recipe makes 12 cookies

What you'll need:
100g butter or stork margarine
75g coconut palm sugar
25g caster sugar
130g self raising flour
1 medium egg
35g cocoa powder
1tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup white chocolate chips
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
1/2 raw cacao nibs

Pre-heat your oven to 180°c

1. Mix together butter and sugars until a smooth creamy texture.

2. Add the egg to butter and sugar mix and combine until fully mixed.

3. Sieve and then fold in the flour and cocoa powder.

4. Add vanilla extract, chocolate chips and cacao nibs.
You don't have to add the chocolate chips, you could replace these with nuts or fruits if you prefer. The cacao nibs are a great additive to give the cookies a nice nut like crunch with a deep chocolatey taste.

5. On a grease proof paper covered baking sheet, spoon out your cookie mixture into golf ball sized portions. Leaving plenty of space around them to allow the cookies to spread.

6. Place in the own for approx 7-10mins. You will want to take your cookies out when they are fully cooked on the outside but still a little soft to touch. This will make sure your cookies don't become dry once they have cooled. If you don't like your cookies with a soft centre however leave them in to cook for longer.

Although this doesn't seem like the healthiest recipe it is better for you then a standard cookie recipe. By substituting the processed caster sugar with coconut palm sugar you have a naturally healthy sweetener. The raw cacao is also a great healthier alternative to processed chocolate chips, because it hasn't had any fats or sugars added to it.

The key benefits of Coconut Palm Sugar:
- It has a low Glycemic Index of 35 compared to 70 of brown cane sugar.
- Contains higher levels of essential vitamins, minerals and amino acids than most other commercially available sweeteners and sugars.

The key benefits of Raw Cacao Nibs:

- Cacao is a tremendous superfood.
- Essential minerals present in cacao are calcium, zinc, iron, copper and potassium.
- It is also high in the ‘beauty minerals’ sulphur and magnesium.
- Natural mood enhancer
